Michael J. Yacovone graduated from Austintown Fitch High School before attending the University of Akron where he majored in Political Science with minors in Pre-Law, Criminal Justice, and American Government. He then received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law with a Certificate in Litigation. During law school, he gained tremendous courtroom experience clerking for an Akron Municipal Court Judge and working for a diverse array of firms, always with a focus on the courtroom.
After a brief stint in private criminal defense practice, Michael accepted a position as an Assistant Mahoning County Prosecutor, where he had the benefit of litigating hundreds of felony cases. In 2021, Atty. Yacovone was officially promoted to Grand Jury Prosecutor, where he was tasked with case intake, presentation to the Mahoning County Grand Jury and advising police on investigative matters. He excelled in this role, working closely with investigating agencies and his colleagues at the prosecutor’s office to maximize efficiency in the administration of justice. During that same period, Attorney Yacovone continued in his trial practice, helping to attain guilty verdicts in multiple aggravated murder cases, one particularly noteworthy vehicular homicide case, and many other high profile felony prosecutions.
He joined IGY in 2024 and his practice is primarily focused on criminal defense and family law. He made quick work of the transition to private practice, gaining a reputation in the community for his tireless preparation and trial advocacy abilities.
In his personal time, Atty. Yacovone currently serves as the Vice President of the Campbell faction of the Carovillese Men’s Society and as a volunteer statistician for the Austintown Fitch football team. His hobbies include playing golf and basketball, and he enjoys spending time with his daughters Sophia and Tanya.
